Sex Offender Curfew in New Jersey: Way to Go!
Well I made it through another Halloween with just a slight stomach ache from the mounds of tootsie rolls that I ate. Every year my son’s mission is to get as many tootsie rolls as he can to bring home to mama! And every year, I make myself ill from the sugar and stiff from the 3 mile run on the treadmill afterwards! Ahhhh …traditions. This Halloween I also heard of another organized purpose that may very well turn into a tradition: a state wide imposed curfew for 2200 convicted sex offenders in New Jersey.
Now how about that? Halloween is a time where kids are excited, running around, hopped up on sugar and expecting people to be in disguise and scare them for fun. What better opportunity for a sexual predator to gain access and control over a target.
Officials in New Jersey decided that they were going to take control of the night and imposed a 7 o’clock pm curfew for all convicted sex offenders. In New Jersey, they have 2200 of these real devils identified and on court orders.
Talk about proactive actions. I love it. Not only is this a message to the communities about the commitment to proactively keep kids safe from these deviants, but also a strong message to the offenders themselves. From the reports I viewed after Halloween, there were only a handful of non compliant offenders. Now I know in a perfect world we would be able to monitor these offenders 24/7/365, but on the scariest night of the year, it was comforting to know that extra measures were taken to keep our kids safe.
My wish now….I am sure you can guess…..lets give our laws in Canada the same teeth so we can also bite into these offenders equal force.
